Meet Pauline,

WiseMind Counselling & Psychotherapy for Women

Welcome to WiseMind Counselling & Psychotherapy for Women in Echuca Moama.

Hello Echuca Moama and Regional Victoria

 My name is Pauline McNeill

I’d like to welcome you to WiseMind Counselling for Women in Echuca Moama, and Regional Victoria. I am a certified practicing counsellor who is based in Echuca Moama, Victoria. I moved to Echuca Moama In mid-2022, from the Dandenong Ranges, prior to this I had lived and worked Melbourne. After the storms in the Dandenong Ranges, I decided to move away from the hills and back to regional Victoria. I was born in Swan Hill, and I raised my three, now grown children who all have children of their own.

Since moving to Echuca Moama, and after joining the Echuca Moama Community Facebook page, I have had the opportunity to see some really genuine and sweet acts of kindness shown to others through this network.

The flooding in the local area has been devastating, and these occurrences, bring such anxiety and heart break, as heartbreaking as this is, the same kindness, and spirit of community has been in play during this time.

This kind of community spirit and care is something I hold onto as a value, since moving to Melbourne some twenty five years ago, I had missed how it felt to be involved in community ethos, that cared for its own. Echuca Moama has proven that kindness, genuine care and community is very much alive, and I am really grateful to be here.

I am based in Echuca Moama, and Regional Vic, (offering telehealth zoom appointments), face to face sessions, and home visits in some circumstances

My practice includes the surrounding rural areas such as Kyabram, Deniliquin, Cohuna and Kerang, and in some instances I can travel. I also provide a national telehealth services. I am an experienced telehealth provider, and although this can take some time to get used to, it can be a very flexible and responsive way to get help from the comfort of home, especially for people who are living remotely and feeling isolated.

On following pages I have provided my qualifications and memberships. I have also listed some of the training I have undertaken which is relevant to counselling.  I have a substantial history, and experience working with people who have found themselves in difficult situations.

I genuinely respect the women who come to my practice as clients, I love helping others, and I want to help make a difference to the lives of my clients. I greatly value and encourage the counselling relationship. Many studies have proven that the one dominant feature in successful counselling is the therapeutic relationship.

Providing a safe, warm compassionate and confidential practice

Kindness is a precursor to understanding resilience and how one word or act of kindness can change the trajectory of some one’s life. There are many famous people who have had very difficult childhoods and younger years who have reported that it took one act of kindness shown to them that ultimately changed their life. that one act was at times the only thing that drove them to believing in their capabilities and ultimately changed the way they felt about their worthiness and ability, and this created confidence to keep going.Kindness is one of the a values I hold dear personally and professionally, it is often a simple act, but it can have far-reaching positive benefits, both to the person giving and to the person who receives the act of kindness.

On reflection when someone has offered me kindness, it just feels like gold, it restores my faith in humanity.

WiseMind Counselling for Women

Sans judgment !

There is no Judgment at WiseMind for Women in Echuca Moama, we all make mistakes, we all feel shame at some stage in our life, we all fail; and the trick is to learn, and move through these not so good parts in our life. As part of my training like all bachelor trained counsellors and psychotherapists, we learn much about the human condition, especially how judgement, criticism and shaming others can cause significant emotional injuries.

Counsellors learn about their own flaws and bias. You cannot be a successful therapist if you have not examined yourself and how you are with others . As therapists checking our not so good side is called “shadow work” helps us maintain our authenticity be mindful of the pain we can inflict and how our own thoughts can influence how we see others. In addition to this, counsellors and psychotherapists undertake clinical supervision; this is a requirement of our governing body PACFA the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation Australia. Supervision is a way in which we continue to learn from a more experienced and trained counsellor or psychotherapist.

I value kindness and authenticity

In counselling one of the most important things to consider is this, “ do I like my therapist, and can I see myself working with this person”?

Why is it so important to like your therapist?

It is largely considered by counselling, psychotherapeutic, and psychology schools, that the therapeutic alliance, the ‘bond’ that develops in the therapy room is exceedingly important, in-fact some academics believe the alliance between therapist and client is the one major factor contributing to the overall successful outcomes for the client.

Your therapists capacity to develop a good therapeutic relationship with you, is focused on, in training as an essential professional skill.

When we come from upbringings where we did not have the chance to be loved for being ourselves or have the ability to rely on others. It can be really difficult to trust others and talk about what is going on. Highlighting the fact that we need some support from someone who is outside of the persons family, friends and social connections.

And that’s why the therapeutic relationship can be not just valuable, but might be the most powerful part of therapy of all – it offers a chance to finally experience what healthy relating actually is.

For the first time, you can feel safe just being who you are, and learn what a trusting, authentic relationship can feel like.

There are those looking for therapy who actually don’t trust or feel comfortable to discuss personal problems around others, even with family and friends.

I value integrity, authenticity and honesty
